For Chambers

Marketing and business development for chambers.

Clerk&Counsel works alongside barristers' chambers and sets to deliver practical business development and marketing services for a fixed monthly fee. We do not replace your existing clerking team. We add capacity, digital reach and a structured new-matter pipeline while your clerks retain control of diary, fees and client relationships.

The challenge

Most chambers need growth, but not another overhead.

Most chambers have expert clerks and long-standing relationships with solicitors. What they often lack is dedicated resource for modern barrister chambers marketing: search-engine visibility, targeted content, Direct Access lead generation and a pipeline that reaches beyond the traditional instructing base. Hiring a full-time marketing manager or generalist agency is expensive, and few agencies understand the regulatory boundaries of the Bar.

Clerk&Counsel offers a middle path. We provide business development for barrister chambers on a fixed-fee basis, scaled to the size of your set. Your clerking team stays in charge. We bring the enquiries, the content and the digital infrastructure, and we pass opportunities straight to your clerks.

Pricing

A fixed monthly fee, agreed upfront.

The monthly fee depends on the size of your chambers and the depth of support you want. A small specialist set might need profile pages and a modest content programme. A larger multi-practice chambers may want multi-channel campaigns, local landing pages and regular insight articles. Every proposal is bespoke, but the fee is agreed upfront and reviewed quarterly.

There is no percentage taken from barristers' fees on work that originates through this service. The fixed monthly payment covers our marketing, lead-generation and clerking support time, so chambers can budget with certainty.

What is included

For that fee, Clerk&Counsel would:

  • 01.Promote the chambers and individual barristers through the Clerk&Counsel network of instructing solicitors, law firms and Direct Access clients.
  • 02.Bring in new solicitor, law-firm and Direct Access enquiries matched to the right specialism and seniority.
  • 03.Identify suitable counsel within the set for each opportunity, so your clerks spend less time searching for the right name.
  • 04.Send opportunities directly to your clerks, complete with a summary of the matter, the prospective client's requirements and any urgency.
  • 05.Provide profile and listing exposure on the Clerk&Counsel platform, where prospective clients search by location, practice area and case type.
  • 06.Feature your barristers in relevant content, including insights articles, practice-area guides and location pages, where it supports your chambers' growth strategy.

We do not take an additional percentage from the barrister for work passed to that chambers. The fixed fee is the only charge for this service.

Quality control

Enquiries arrive pre-qualified.

Every enquiry we send to your clerks has been through an initial filter. We confirm the matter type, location, budget expectations and urgency. We also carry out a basic conflict check against the information supplied, flag any public-access considerations, and make sure the client understands the difference between our clerking service and the independent barrister they may instruct.

Your clerks then decide whether to accept, decline or request more information. We do not bind your members to a fee or a hearing date without your clerks' agreement.

How we differ

A clerking business, not a generic agency.

We are not a general legal marketing agency. We are a clerking and intermediary business that already handles enquiries, conflict checks and client onboarding. That means the leads we send are closer to being instructions than cold calls. We understand the Bar Standards Board rules on referrals, fee arrangements and public-access work, and we structure everything accordingly.

Your chambers keeps its brand, its clerks and its fee structure. We become an extension of your business-development function, not a replacement.

Reporting

Clear reporting on return and pipeline.

We provide monthly reports showing where enquiries came from, which practice areas generated interest, and how many progressed to a formal instruction. This lets chambers see return on the fixed fee and refine the strategy over time. If a particular practice area or location is underperforming, we adjust content and targeting rather than waiting for the annual review.

Who this suits

From specialist sets to full-service chambers.

This model works for established chambers that want to grow a specific practice group, smaller sets that need visibility without hiring, and specialist chambers that want to reach Direct Access clients as well as solicitor firms. It also suits chambers that have invested in a website but need a consistent flow of enquiries to justify the spend.

It is also a useful option for chambers that are launching a new practice area, entering a new geographic market, or rebuilding their online presence after a rebrand. Because the fee is fixed, chambers can budget with certainty and scale the service up or down as priorities change.

Results

What chambers growth looks like.

Growth through Clerk&Counsel tends to show in three ways. First, an increase in pre-qualified solicitor and Direct Access enquiries that match the chambers' stated strengths. Second, stronger search visibility for the practice areas and locations your barristers want to be known for. Third, a lighter administrative load on your clerks, because we handle the initial filter, client care letters and onboarding documents before the matter reaches them.

Next steps

One conversation to see if it fits your set.

We will ask about the size of your chambers, the practice areas you want to grow, and how your clerking team currently receives enquiries. From there we can propose a fixed monthly fee and a clear scope.
